Susan Patterson is a freelance writer with over fifteen years of varied writing experience. She has a passion for sharing knowledge in hopes of making a positive difference in the lives of others. An avid volunteer and leader, Susan is supportive of initiatives that encourage local living and community relationships.
Susan has been homeschooling her three children for seven years. In addition to consulting new homeschooling families, Susan enjoys sharing innovative ways to teach children that are somewhat "out-of-the-box". Her education philosophy is to keep the hands busy, the heart engaged and the mind open.
From school garden programs to managing extensive volunteer-based beautification projects, Susan has used her Master Gardener Training to teach others about the limitless value of gardening. Susan was also the co-founder of a local, organic gardening initiative in West Virginia and actively involved in the West Virginia Herb Association as an instructor, presenter and board member.
With a University major in Parks and Recreation, Susan has orchestrated events for groups up to 30,000 including arts and craft's exhibitions, music events, corporate functions, athletic competitions, heritage festivals and community gatherings.
When not writing, Susan can be found capturing creative shots with her camera. She participates regularly in photography competitions and has enjoyed having many of her photographs published.
Always on the lookout for "green" living tools, Susan incorporates many sustainable living practices into everyday life and raising her children. Making environmentally conscious decisions helps Susan and her family live healthier lives on less.
As a Certified Biblical Health Coach and a Certified Metabolic Typing Advisor, Susan has worked cooperatively with Chiropractors and community health advocates to provide educational resources and wellness programs. In addition, Susan speaks regularly at conferences on a variety of health and wellness topics including whole foods, herbs, nutritional therapy, detoxification, exercise and stress reduction techniques. Susan is also an avid vegetarian and whole food expert who is always coming up with creative ways to feed her family.
As a published poet, Susan is now working on a collaborative poetry project with her eldest daughter who is illustrating the work. The book is a collection of stories and poems that relive her fondest memories as a child.
In her spare time, Susan loves to do handwork and crafting including crochet, knitting, mixed media, card making, felting and more.
With five dogs, five horses and five cats, Susan knows the ins and outs of domestic and farm animal management.
