Erin De Santiago

Erin De Santiago is a freelance travel and food/wine writer and blogger with over seven years of experience writing for a number of websites and publications. She currently writes for several travel related websites and publishes her own blogs.

Erin has spent the last six years working as a 'digital nomad' while living as an Expat in three different countries -- Taiwan, the Netherlands, and Belize. She has traveled to over 60 countries on six continents to date, searching for story angles and on assignment. Erin has written for a number of travel websites and publications and specializes in geographic regions like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and Belize.

She is a regular contributor to sites like and Roam Right Travel Insurance. Erin is AFAR Travel Magazine's local Belize expert and authored the official AFAR Guide to Belize. She also authored a majority of Belize's official visitor magazine, Destination Belize, in 2013.

Theme Parks

Erin grew up 20 minutes from Disneyland in California and has incorporated Disney in nearly every aspect of her life. She holds an annual pass to all the Disney Parks worldwide and visits each one at least once a year -- she's even been known to hit all five resorts in the world within a 30-day time span. Erin has written about Disney for a number of publications and plans on resurrecting her own Disney blog, Disney Globetrotter.

Erin's photography has been featured on sites like CNN (both online and television) and she was awarded an honorable mention in Islands Magazine photography contest in 2011.

Food: Cooking and Gourmet

When it comes to food, Erin literally plans her travels around food and notable culinary destinations. She's perfectly content to try a Michelin-starred restaurant one night and enjoy a local market the next night. Erin is happiest when returning from a trip and working to recreate the local cuisine she enjoyed on her travels.

Erin served as the English language editor for a world-renowned chef's second cookbook and previously was the Asian Cuisine editor for Suite 101. In addition to writing about food and cooking for other publications, Erin also publishes her own culinary travel blog, Our Tasty Travels.

Erin recently obtained her Certified Specialist in Wine (CSW) designation. She also worked at a boutique winery in Northern California, pouring wine in the tasting room while learning more about the entire winemaking process. Erin was the previous Old World Wine editor for Suite 101. In addition to writing about wine for other publications, she is incorporating more wine into her culinary travel blog.

Prior to becoming a digital nomad and writing about travel and food/wine, Erin worked for 12 years in civil litigation and is a certified Paralegal. She obtained her A.S. in Paralegal Studies, has a B.S. in Criminal Justice, and obtained her Certified Legal Assistant/Paralegal certification (CLA/CP).

Erin also holds several insurance related designations. She worked for a major rental car company handling breach of contract cases, fraud investigations and writing up a number of legal and training documents. After seven years, she moved to two large insurance companies, handling high-exposure auto and homeowner liability cases for 13 states. She analyzed and drafted countless legal and medical documents and attended regular court appearances, including arbitrations and mediations.

Social Media and Technology

Erin stays on top of travel trends, especially when it comes to technology. She has many of the latest gadgets and writes about some of the cool stuff available for travelers. She is also starting to contribute to a travel technology website on a monthly basis. Since Erin's job requires a lot of online promotion, she is very active on social media networks, even managing accounts for businesses in the tourism sector.

Crafting and Scrapbooking

Erin's family has worked in the craft industry for several generations, owning their own businesses in several sectors. Erin grew up painting and crafting and today, she is very involved in papercrafting and scrapbooking. She attends the biggest wholesale industry shows and stays on top of the new products and trends in the industry. Erin co-authors a scrapbook blog with her mother called All Scrapped Out and is in process of developing an online scrapbook supply company.
