Cornell
Cornell is made up of seven colleges, including a veterinary school and a
medical college. It is located in Ithaca, New York and is a private
university. The university was founded in 1865 and is a member of the Ivy
League.
The Weill Cornell Medical College is considered a graduate program, so
you'll need to get your pre med prerequisites completed before applying.
Generally, an emphasis in biology, math and other sciences is helpful in
this area. |

Johns
Hopkins
Johns Hopkins (JH) has a unique program for those wanting to switch to the
field of medicine but may not have an undergraduate degree in a related
field or who just want to get those pre med requisites firmed up and
increase their chances of getting into some of the top medical schools in
the country. The
JH
Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program has an outstanding record with
nearly 100 percent of those completing the program getting accepted into
medical school. The program takes between nine and 14 months to complete. |

Ohio State
Located in Columbus, Ohio, Ohio State offers many of the courses you'll need
to follow a pre med track of interest. While there isn't a specific degree
titled pre med, advisors can explain what
prerequisites you'll need to complete to apply to the
Ohio State
University College of Medicine. The school also offers pre dentistry
courses, pre optometry, pre veterinary and pre optometry. Ohio State is
among the list of largest schools in the nation and is home to about 52,000
students on the main campus and around 8,000 more on other campuses. |

Saint
Louis University
Saint Louis University (SLU) offers several
pre-health programs, including pre med. The city has quite a few
hospitals in the area, offering a lot of opportunities for scholarships.
Over 60 percent of their students make it into medical school on first
attempt and overall, including re-applications, about 80 percent make it
into medical school. You can
apply to

University of
California, Los Angeles
Affectionately referred to as UCLA, this university offers many of the
courses you'll need as a pre med student. UCLA offers a unique student group
called
Pre-Medical Peer Association. This group is there to offer support,
advice and help as you maneuver through the difficult pre med program. UCLA
also offers some great
pre med library resources for undergrad students. Pre med students
completing their degree can then apply for admission to
UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine. |

University of
California, Berkley
1868 is the year that this university was chartered. It has about 35,843
students with just over 25 percent of applicants accepted into the
university. They offer specific preparatory courses for being admitted to
the medical program at UC-Berkley, or
"pre med" courses. You can apply to Berkley online and check to see if
your application has been accepted, if the school needs more information or
even if you've been rejected and need to choose another school to attend. |

University of
Michigan
The University of Michigan has one of the top
medical schools in the country and thus many students in pre med courses
in preparation to enter the doctor program. The university has the
Pre
Med Club, which offers advising sessions, a mentor program and physician
shadowing opportunities. The University of Michigan is made up of three
campuses and has about 56,000 students attending at any given time. Campuses
are in Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint, Michigan. |

Vanderbilt
University
Vanderbilt University (VU) offers a
School of Medicine, which makes VU a perfect choice for completing your
pre med program. VU recommends that
pre med students complete one year of chemistry, organic chemistry,
biology (or zoology) and general physics as well as the complementary labs
for each course. Vanderbilt offers early admission into their medical
program, so you'll want to consult with an advisor about when to take the
MCATs and what scores you'll need. |

Washington
University, St. Louis
You can actually complete your pre med requirements at any accredited school
and then apply to the
Washington University Post-Baccalaureate pre medical program. Students
who successfully complete the pre med program can then apply to the
School of
Medicine. The medical school takes on about 1,260 students at a time and
employs around 1,772 faculty members. Tuition is about $47,000 a year while
in medical school. The costs of undergraduate tuition, room and board are
around $56,000 a year. |

Yale
The Health Professions Advisory Team at Yale can help you determine what
classes you need to take in order to complete your pre med requirements.
They advice that you obtain a "Redbook" which is called the Applying to
Medical School Guide and offers information on everything you'll need to
complete before applying to the
Yale School
of Medicine. To be accepted at Yale, you need to apply directly to the
program in which you wish to enroll. While there are specific courses you'll
need to complete as a pre med student, there is some flexibility in other
courses of study. |
