Columbia is well known for its medical center and medical degree program. Columbia accepts about 10 percent of those who apply to the school and is home to around 23,000 students. Duke University is located in Durham, North Carolina and is famous for their Blue Devils basketball team which consistently makes it into the NCAA Final Four and has won several times. Academics at Duke include programs such as law, medicine, nursing and business. Admissions are strenuous. Only 22 percent of students who apply are accepted into the 14,000 student campus. Since a degree from Harvard is almost a guarantee of success, many people apply, which makes getting into this top college a real challenge. In addition to excellent grades and school and community involvement, you'll need references and recommendations to gain admission. About 19,000 students attend Harvard at any given time. Only around eight percent of those who apply get accepted to this prestigious school. Tuition is about $37,000 a year, making it competitive with other universities in the top 10 list of colleges. Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Residing in Cambridge, Massachusetts, MIT offers majors such as aeronautics, brain and cognitive sciences, engineering and architecture. The school enrolls around 10,000 students at any given time and accepts about 12 percent of those who apply for admission. The admission process takes one of three tracks. There are undergraduate students who want to come in as freshman or transfer to MIT, graduate students and professionals who simply want to enhance their knowledge with a few classes.
Princeton
Located in Princeton, New Jersey, this school consistently ranks one of the best schools in America. Home to about 7,500 students, acceptance rates hover at around 10 percent. Tuition to attend Princeton is about $35,000 a year plus room and board costs. Degrees from Princeton can range from anthropology to chemical engineering and everything in between.
