Disney
A childhood just doesn't seem complete without at least one family vacation to Walt Disney World. Luckily there are many different activities around Orlando/Kissimmee that will keep your family busy for the entire vacation. Disney offers a handy My Disney Vacation planner to help you arrange all the details of your visit. You can stay in one of the Disney resorts for easy access to the Disney parks or stay at a nearby hotel or campground if you are on a budget.
Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is an excellent family vacation spot. The beauty and majesty of the Grand Canyon will wow your entire family. The park offers many different programs for kids to help them really enjoy their visit, such as the Junior Ranger Program and summer camp programs. You'll also find a link to help you plan your visit right down to riding a pack mule down into the canyon. You can also learn about river trips, backpacking, hiking and bike tours.
Great Wolf Lodge
Great Wolf Lodge is an indoor, themed water park where families can play and stay. The locations are all inclusive, offering swimming, lodging, fun, games and dining in one convenient location. Great Wolf has water parks in several states, including Charlotte-Concord, North Carolina; Grand Mound, Washington; Grapevine, Texas; Kansas City, Kansas; and Mason, Ohio. There are several others as well. Each of the family suites has a different theme.
Hershey Chocolate World
Visit the Hershey's factory in Hershey, Pennsylvania and learn about the history of the company, how the chocolate is made and even get a few free samples. While you're there, you'll want to eat at one of the restaurants at Chocolate World and grab favorites like shakes, chocolate fondue and hot cocoa. While in the town of Hershey, you'll also want to visit HersheyPark, a theme park with roller coasters and a definite chocolate theme. Even the lamp posts look like Hershey's Kisses!
Myrtle Beach
Your family will enjoy this beach smack in the middle of a city in South Carolina. There is so much to do in Myrtle Beach that you may not know where to start. Families will enjoy the local water and amusement parks such as Wild Water and Wheels and Family Kingdom Oceanfront Waterpark. You can also partake of a large number of water sports, teach your kids to golf, take a cruise on the ocean, spend a day at the beach, view some live theater or take the kids fishing.
Saint Louis Museums
Saint Louis, Missouri is the gateway to the West but it may also be the gateway to a fun and affordable family vacation. There are many free museums and activities for families in Saint Louis. The Saint Louis Science Center charges no admission free and even the zoo in Saint Louis is mostly free. In the summers, there are various festivities on the riverfront, most of which are free to attend. You can also take carriage rides through historic downtown Saint Louis for a small fee.
San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is often touted as the top zoo in the world. They have everything from panda bears to polar bears. Be sure to use their guide to plan your trip to the zoo to get the most from your visit. You can plan everything from which shows you'd like to see to where you want to eat that day. You can also pull up more information on all of the exhibits. Plan to spend at least one full day to see everything available, but you may need more time than that. San Diego also offers SeaWorld, Wild Animal Park, Lego World and beaches.
Washington, D.C.
The nation's capital is one of the best tourist destinations for families because there are so very many activities to do, many free or inexpensive. Your children will learn history while having fun. Places to see in D.C. include the White House, The Lincoln Memorial and the National Cathedral. While in Washington, you'll also want to check out Arlington Cemetery, the Vietnam Memorial Wall, Ford Theater (where Lincoln was shot) and some of the many different museums in the city.
Williamsburg
Located in Virginia, Williamsburg is a town that brings history to life for those who visit. Set in Colonial times, actors dress and play the part of 18th Century citizens. You'll want to visit the historic area that is set up like an 18th Century town. There are also a couple of museums where exhibits vary but might contain art from the 1700s as well as furniture and clothing. Each day there are a variety of different programs aimed specifically at children.
Wisconsin Dells
This is a family playground of water parks, shopping and museums. Some of the more popular attractions include Circus World, Timbavati Wildlife Park and Storybook Gardens, MagiQuest, Mid-Continent Railway Museum, Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum and the Interactive Science Center. There are numerous kid friendly restaurants and hotels where families can stay. You can also go to a drive-in theater or to one of the many live theaters in the area.
