Top 10 Honolulu Restaurants

Top 10 List     how we choose
3660 on the Rise
3660 is a Japanese restaurant with a Hawaiian twist. The chef is Lydell Leong. The menu has a wide selection of items. Some of the more interesting items listed include Kalua Pork Spring Rolls, Crispy Garlic Scallion Shrimp, Soy Sake Glazed Fillet of Butterfish, Burgandy Braised Short Ribs of Beef and an interesting dessert called the Banana Chimichanga S'more.
Chef Mavro Restaurant
Chef George Mavrothalassitis runs this restaurant in Honolulu. He has been honored with the James Beard award, which is one of the top awards for chefs. The menu consists of seasonal Hawaiian favorites and international cuisines. He also offers a vegetarian menu. The menu is a little unusual. You buy a meal that consists of four, five or six courses.
Duke's
Duke Kahanamoku was known as the father of surfing, so it's no surprise that this beach-themed restaurant is named after him. As you dine on Hawaiian themed food, you will have a view of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. For dining, you'll want to eat in the dining room. However, Duke's also features the Barefoot Bar, where you can get a drink, watch live entertainment and chat with friends.
Haleiwa Joe's
This seafood grill has several locations around the island of Oahu. It was started in 1998 and has become a favorite with locals and with tourists. The decor boasts a beach/surf theme that is semi-casual. The dinner menu includes items with interesting names like the Black and Blue Ahi, Rock Shrimp Haleiwa, Haiku Chicken, Teriyaki Top Sirloin and a huge selection of wines and cocktails.
Hau Tree Lanai Restaurant
Hau Tree won the 2010 Hale Aina Gold Award from Honolulu Magazine for best outdoor dining. Menu items include favorites like eggs Benedict for breakfast, lobster ravioli for lunch, Hawaiian pan seared pork chops for dinner and warm chocolate lava cake for dessert. The restaurant is located in The New Otani Kaimana Beach Hotel, but you do not have to stay there to dine at the restaurant.
Nico's Pier 38
Nico's mixes French cuisine with a dash of Hawaiian influence. Chef Nicholas Chaiz has come up with a menu that will make your taste buds sing with culinary joy. For example, Nico's French Toast is a dish that is made from sweet bread purchased from a baker on the island. If you are looking for something different for lunch or dinner, you might want to try Chicken Katsu, which is boneless chicken rolled in Japanese bread crumbs and fried.

Orchids
Located in the Halekulani Hotel, Orchids is a restaurant with an ocean view and casual fine dining. In the evenings you can enjoy a romantic meal while listening to the gentle strumming of a piano player. If you time it just right, you might even be able to catch one of Hawaii's beautiful sunsets over the ocean. Be sure to try menu items like Miso Lobster Consomme. The hotel also offers some other options for cocktails and food. Try the House Without a Key and La Mer for French dining.
Rainbow Drive-In
If you spent the day surfing or just want to be part of that beach tradition, you may want to check out the Rainbow Drive-In. The restaurant and store has been in operation for nearly 50 years. Rainbow Drive-In is not fancy food, but it is delicious and an experience that anyone visiting Honolulu should try at least once. Some of the menu items you'll find are chili dogs, fried chicken, BBQ and hamburgers and fries.
Roy's
For delicious dining, check out Roy's cuisine. The restaurant calls their food "Hawaiian Fusion". The term seems to suit since they infuse a little taste of Hawaii into most dishes. Some of the menu items are called: Poached Pear and Pecan Salad, Citrus Tarragon Grilled Salmon, Grilled Wagyu Meatloaf and Roy's Melting Hot Chocolate Soufflé. Is your mouth watering yet?
Shore Bird
Shore Bird Restaurant and Beach Bar has an interesting story that dates back 34 years. Dining at Shore Bird is said to be an "experience". Diners grill their own food while servers create entertainment and pointers. The grill is a large community grill that all the diners use and you can add different types of seasonings, spices and sauces to your meat, flavoring it to taste.
