Horror Movies

Top 10 List     how we choose
Amityville Horror
Based on a true story, the movie brings to life the horrors experienced by those who lived in an old house in Amityville. The story, made into a book, made into a movie, was first released in 1979 and starred James Brolin and Margo Kidder. The move was then remade in 2005, when an entire family is terrorized by demons. There were several sequels following the original Amityville Horror, including Amityville II: The Possession, Amityville: A New Generation, Amityville 3-D and Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes.
Halloween
Fans of Michael Myers will want to gather up all the Halloween movies and have a Halloween movie marathon. There are plenty to choose from in some of the most successful sequels to ever hit the big screen. Start with the original Halloween, made in 1978 and starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Nancy Kyes and Tony Moran. That movie is followed with Halloween II, Halloween III: The Season of the Witch, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Meyers, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Meyers, Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later, Halloween: Resurrection and Rob Zombie's Halloween. Nine movies in all!
Jaws
The movie that made everyone scared to go into the ocean is a true horror classic. Although it can still be caught on television from time to time, it is still worth renting or buying the DVD. This is another horror film with sequels, creating the opportunity for a movie marathon featuring the mindless predator of the great white shark. More than 30 years later and this movie is still popular enough to inspire a host of Jaws products, including games such as the Playstation 2 Jaws Unleashed, plush toys that play the Jaws theme song and posters and collectibles.
Misery
In this psychological thriller, Annie Wilkes (played by Kathy Bates) is author Paul Shelden's (played by James Caan) biggest and most disturbed fan. She will stop at absolutely nothing to keep him in her home and under her control. Kathy Bates gives a brilliant performance that will leave you scared to even pick up a pen, much less write a book. This film was released in 1990 and has quickly become a staple in any horror movie lover's collection. You can still purchase the DVD at Amazon and posters and memorabilia at Movie Goods.
The Omen
Find out the meaning of 666 and why the boy Damien in this movie is truly the most horrific creation you'll ever witness. Starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, the story follows a couple who slowly come to realize that their son is not your ordinary kid but the antichrist. This movie is a true horror hit, with sequels and remakes. You'll find movie posters and DVD copies. The movie followed a series of movies about demonic children, including Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist.
Poltergeist
1982 movie starring the late Heather O'Rourke, a blonde haired actress who rose to fame for her portrayal of Carol Anne. Craig T. Nelson and JoBeth Williams also star in the movie. The movie was nominated for 3 Oscars. Probably one of the most interesting things about this movie is the belief that the movie was cursed. The Poltergeist curse resulted in lost film time, illnesses from the stars, set tragedies and many other frightening stories. The first movie was followed by two sequels.
Prom Night
If the 1980 movie scared you, the 2008 remake will send you hiding under your covers. The remake stars many lesser known teen stars, but they give a worthy performance that leaves the viewer on the edge of his theater seat. This movie isn't for the weak stomached as it has a blood, gore and gripping moments and isn't appropriate for young children. But if you like a good scare, then grab the DVD release of this movie and compare it to the 1980 version for a night packed with teen horror. You'll even find Prom Night Halloween costumes.

Psycho
1960 movie starring Anthony Perkins is a true testimony to Alfred Hitchcock's filmmaking genius. The introduction of this film paved the way for many other horror classics, such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Hotel Hell. It is often seen as the beginning of the cheap and gory slasher film genre. You'll find many reviews and sites dedicated to this movie. Janet Leigh, playing the part of Marion Crane gives the memorable shower scene shot where she is slashed to death and her blood drains down the tub drain.

The Shining
The late Stanley Kubrick turned Stephen King's story into a blockbuster hit that almost 30 years later still has the power to terrify anyone even thinking of staying the night at an out of the way inn or old hotel. Following the tradition of The Exorcist and The Omen, The Shining takes a new look at demonic activity on a larger scale and demon possession. You'll even find YouTube clips of some of the more memorable scenes, such as the hallway scene and the "Here's Johnny" scene.
Silence of the Lambs
Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins star is this spine tingling psychological thriller about serial killers and the twisted ways they think. The movie is based upon a book by the same name by author Thomas Harris. Hannibal Lecter is arguably one of the best known horror villains of all time. He's been immortalized in everything from Halloween costumes to computer screensavers. There are many memorable quotes from the movie, such as FBI agent Clarice Starling saying "They don't have a name for what he is."
