Pitbulls
This is probably one of the better known dangerous breeds of dogs and
regularly tops the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) list of most dangerous
dogs in America. The CDC bases their lists on reported attacks and the
severity of the attack. One of the things that make these dogs so dangerous
is their ability to aim for the neck and then to
lock their jaws on their opponent's throat. They typically weight in at
55 to 65 pounds but are a stocky, muscular dog. |

Rottweilers
Rottweilers are often listed as dangerous because they are such a
territorial breed. The CDC also lists Rotties in their
top dangerous dog breeds list.
Google http://cf.ltkcdn.net/www/top10 offers tons of pictures of these breed, both adult dogs
and puppies. Rottweiler is a registered breed with the
American Kennel Club (AKC). They are most often used as guard dogs for
businesses and individuals. They can weight in at a weighty 100 to 130
pounds. |

German Shepherds
Since the time of the
Rin Tin Tin TV shows, kids have seen German Shepherd dogs as a sort of
hero. After all, these dogs are often guide dogs, family companions and even
serve as police officers. As with any animal, this breed can be made mean if
not treated properly. However, German's are highly intelligent and
physically powerful animals that weigh in around 70 to 100 pounds. That is
why this breed makes the top 10 list. |

Huskies
As we move down the list of dangerous dogs, the bites grow fewer for some of
these breeds. For example, over a period of nearly 20 years there were only
fifteen fatality bites from huskies. Huskies are full of energy and need to
be walked and exercised regularly.
Huskies weight between 44 to 66 pounds. There is a myth that all huskies
have blue eyes, but that is simply not true. These are very family oriented
dogs. |

Alaskan Malamutes
An amazing dog with high intelligence and devotion to family. Because they
are so energetic, if that energy is not directed in a positive pursuit the
dog will become restless and sometimes aggressive. They weight between 75
and 100 pounds. These dogs are built to withstand the Arctic weather and
have a coarse, double coat.
Malamute.org offers
funny stories, pictures and opportunities to rescue dogs that need a good
home. |

Doberman
Pinschers
Wonderful website, filled to the brim with information about this sleek, yet
muscular breed. Owners of Pinschers seem to concur that the key is raising
these dogs with a firm, but gentle hand. They weight between 55 to 90 pounds
grown.
Dobermans are highly protective of their family and this is what
sometimes gives them the reputation of being a dangerous dog. You'll find
many Dobie rescue
services all over the country. |

Chow Chows
Fuzzy and wrinkly, chows look like giant teddy bears that you just want to
cuddle. While most will be into this type of affection, the CDC still has
this dog on its most dangerous list, so proceed with caution if you don't
know the dog well. Although these dogs can give the appearance of not
needing a lot of attention, they actually need much
guidance
and encouragement. If the owner does not take command and let the dog
know who the alpha is, the dog may not take well to obedience training. They
weight between 50 to 70 pounds. |

Great Danes
The enormous size of these dogs makes them a scary undertaking for some dog
lovers. They can weight from 120 to 200 pounds. That's a lot of dog! One of
the main problems with this breed is their need for physical activity. The
Great
Dane needs to be taken on a daily walk that is fairly long.
Unfortunately, if they do not get this attention and exercise, some dogs
will rebel. |

St. Bernards
Known as the rescue dogs that help people out of avalanches, these dogs are
typically gentle giants that wouldn't harm anyone. However, their sheer size
can make this a dangerous animal in cases where the animal has not been
trained or some other tragedy has struck the household. Learn all about the
history of this breed, learn about Saint Bernards in action and
rescuing people. |
