Gone With the Wind
Steamy doesn't even begin to describe this 1939 movie starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. Although the movie has many notable kisses, the one that has been memorialized in posters is the one on the road to Atlanta. Scarlett is headed home, Rhett is headed to war as a soldier. He asks her for a kiss and she gives him one that he's certain to remember during the long war. The sky is orange with fire, the mood is tense and this kiss consistently ranks in the top 10 of movie kisses. Yowza!
Titanic
The movie that captured America's heart has a pretty amazing kissing scene too. James Cameron not only researched the real Titanic's wreckage, but created this amazing movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and the beautiful Kate Winslet. Rose (Winslet) goes to Jack (DiCaprio) on the bow of the ship. He lifts her onto the railing, opening her world as the sun sets brilliantly in the background. Then, she turns her head and they kiss with such amazing tenderness that it brings tears to your eyes.
Pride and Prejudice
Anyone who loves Jane Austen will be impressed with the likeness of this movie adaptation to the original book. Keira Knightly makes a lovely and likeable Elizabeth. Although the kiss between Mr. Darcy and Lizzie doesn't come until the very last shot of the movie, it is the build up to the kiss, the suspense of it, that makes it that much more passionate and memorable. Bridget Jones' Diary
This modern-day romance follows Bridget Jones as she tries to lose weight, stop smoking, stop drinking and get over the boss who broke her heart. Somewhere in the middle of all of life's craziness, she finds love in the most unexpected place. The final scene in this movie has Bridget (played by Renee Zellweger) running out into the snow in her panties and a coat and throwing herself in Mark Darcy's (Colin Firth's) arms. Bridget then pulls back and says, "Good boys don't kiss like that" to which Mark replies that they do.
Lady and the Tramp
If you like romance with a touch of humor, you'll love this whimsical tale of Lady, a pampered Cocker Spaniel, who falls in love with Tramp, a mutt from the streets. When a grumpy aunt comes to visit with her two Siamese cats, Lady is tossed outside, frightened and runs away only to be lost and afraid on the streets. Tramp then shows her his world, including his favorite Italian restaurant. It is over a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, that the two start chewing on the same noodle, only to wind up kissing. It is a sweet, beautiful moment, even if it is animated.
Sabrina
This movie is the ultimate Cinderella story. Sabrina Fairchild is the chauffeur's daughter, only she's madly in love with the son of the family he drives for. She grew up on their estate and would spend hours watching David from her hiding spot during parties. She goes off to Paris and comes back beautiful, fashionable and determined to win David's heart. Only, somewhere along the way, she winds up falling for his older brother, Lionel and they share a passionate kiss. There are two versions of this movie. One with Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart and one with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford.
Sixteen Candles
An eighties classic, Molly Ringwald plays Samantha. They've forgotten her sixteenth birthday, the school's biggest nerd (played by Anthony Michael Hall) is in love with her and the guy she really wants has a girlfriend that seems totally amazing on the surface. However, he is tired of his girlfriend's wild partying ways and ready to break up and the type of girl he is looking for looks just like Samantha. At the end of the film, they share an amazing birthday kiss over a cake lit with sixteen birthday candles as the song "Sixteen Candles" begins to play.
Singin' in the Rain
It doesn't get better than this movie kiss. Singing, dancing and the acting of Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds. In Singin' in the Rain, Don (played by Gene Kelly) kisses starlet wannabe Kathy (Debbie Reynolds) in her doorway. It is raining and the kiss is sweet and obviously has a big impact on Don. In fact, his reaction to the kiss is better than the kiss itself. Forget that it's pouring rain! He starts singing, dancing, twirling his umbrella and smiling ear to ear.
Witness
In Witness, an Amish child witnesses a murder, a cop (Harrison Ford) lives amongst them to protect the boy, and the boy's widowed mother and the cop fall in love. They come from two different worlds. She teaches him the simple pleasures in life and helps to soften his rough edge as he sees the goodness in her and the people around him. He teaches her to dance. They share a kiss in the field just before he is ready to leave. The kiss may be all they'll ever have and do they ever make the most of it!
The Notebook
