Detailed Experience

Social Worker Experience

As a Master's level social worker, Debra has worked closely with both traditional and non-traditional families and has a special interest in supporting LGBTQ families. She has also worked with every generation, from children and teens to parents and grandparents. She understands generation gaps and the miscommunications that can occur, even among people who love each other dearly. The articles she writes help strengthen family ties while ensuring that all family members feel free to speak in their unique voices.

Substance Abuse and Recovery Expertise

During her time as an emergency room social worker, Debra worked with many clients who had substance abuse issues. She has stayed current in the field ever since, reading the literature and attending continuing education seminars. She knows that just as not everyone with cancer responds to the same chemotherapy, no two substance abusers will respond to exactly the same recovery plan.

In her articles, Debra addresses both familiar and cutting-edge treatment programs, giving readers plenty of choices so that they can find the programs and the options that work best for them. Debra also reaches out to the loved ones of substance abusers, offering them support and suggestions for holding their own lives together as they try to help the person who is abusing substances.
