Carla Caruso has a journalism degree from the University of South Australia. Previously, she was a gossip columnist and fashion editor at Adelaide’s daily newspaper, The Advertiser. She has also worked as a media adviser for a state government department, and a senior writer and stylist at the former Nine to Five Magazine in Sydney. As well, Carla’s lectured in professional writing at Adelaide’s Flinders University.

Freelance Writer and Editor

Carla has since freelanced for various publications including Woman’s Day, That’s Life, Marie Claire, Home Ideas, and DUO. She’s also been the editor of titles at Link Disability Magazine and the Romance Writers of Australia’s monthly journal. As a freelance reporter for a jewelry trade magazine, she was sent to attend the international jewelry fair, VicenzaOro, in Italy four times. Carla has also produced a podcast, Model Suburb, which surrounds the history of the Adelaide suburb, Colonel Light Gardens.

Published Author

Carla has written women’s fiction for HarperCollins and Penguin, including the 2018 dual-timeline novel, The Right Place. Her first paperback, Catch of the Day, drew on her adventures as a cadet journalist in a small beach town and was released in 2013. She also coordinated media coverage for the Romance Writers of Australia’s national conference in Adelaide in 2016.

Twins Guru

Previously, Carla was an editor of the Australian Multiple Birth Association’s magazine. She also has twin sons, born in 2013 – they’re fraternal and very cute.

Jewelry Designer

Carla has long had a love affair with gems and has a sideline making fashion jewelry under the name of Carla C Accessories.

Personal Interests

Luca is Carla’s 10-year-old rescue cat. When she’s not filling up his cat bowl (again), she loves reading her online horoscopes (she’s a Capricorn) and watching feel-good TV shows and movies. One day she hopes to try her hand at screenwriting or an interactive novel.
