Karen Frazier

Karen Frazier is a freelance writer with more than 25 years of experience writing for an array of publications. She is the author of many cookbooks, including The Hashimoto's 4-Week Plan, Nutrition Facts, The Hashimoto's Cookbook and Action Plan, DASH Done Slow, The Gastroparesis Cookbook, Acid Reflux Escape Plan, The Easy Acid Reflux Cookbook, The Flexible FODMAP Cookbook, The Complete Paleo Slow Cooker, The Quick and Easy IBS Relief Cookbook.

Karen also writes paranormal, metaphysical, and energy healing books including Dancing with the Afterlife: A paranormal memoir, Lessons of Many Lives, Pioneer Spirits, Dark of Night in the Light of Day: The Art of Interpreting Your Dreams, and Avalanche of Spirits: The Ghosts of Wellington. Energy Healing

Karen is an intuitive energy healer. She works with various vibrational healing modalities including crystal healing, Tibetan sound healing, traditional sound healing, metaphysical healing, and Reiki. She has studied other modalities, as well, including polarity therapy and Quantum Touch®. She is a Reiki Master-Teacher (Shinpiden), Crystal Reiki Master, and Animal Reiki Practitioner who has taught and attuned more than 100 Reiki practitioners. She teaches a regular series of Reiki, crystals, and energy healing classes at Vision Collective in Portland, Oregon. She is also a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals. Additionally, Karen the author of several books about energy healing including The Higher Vibes Toolbox, Reiki Healing for Beginners, Crystals for Healing, Crystals for Beginners, and the upcoming Crystals in Everyday Life. She also writes a monthly energy healing column for Paranormal Underground Magazine, and some of her writing about affirmations, visualization, and the Law of Attraction have been featured in the popular Chicken Soup for the Soul series. Karen holds a PhD in Metaphysics from the University of Sedona, and she is currently working to earn her DD (Doctor of Divinity) in Spiritual Healing. Her dissertation research focuses on the use of sound to bring about spiritual, emotional, and physical healing. She also writes regularly about energy healing on her blog and on her social media including Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.


As a paranormal, metaphysical, and spiritual author, teacher, and practitioner, Karen spent three years as the Managing Editor and a journalist for Paranormal Underground Magazine. She currently writes two monthly columns for the magazine, Metaphysics and Energy Healing, and Symbols and Dream Interpretation, and she frequently contributes special reports about paranormal investigations and haunted locations. She is the co-host of Paranormal Underground Radio and investigates the paranormal as a psychic medium. She maintains relationships with some of the field's top experts, sharing information, ideas, and research findings. She also is a frequent lecturer at paranormal conferences and symposia and teaches classes in psychic development, dream interpretation, and energy healing.

Feng Shui, Meditation, Divination, and Horoscopes

Karen has taken multiple specialized courses in feng shui, I Ching, tarot, palmistry, astrology, numerology, and the bagua, and she regularly uses principles and practices of each of these in her work as an intuitive energy healer and Reiki Master-Teacher. She also includes feng shui, numerology, divination, and astrology instruction in her crystals and energy healing classes and books, and she practices the principles of feng shui in her home and workspaces. Karen provides tarot, numerology, and astrology readings for students and clients, and she consults the I Ching daily for personal growth and enrichment. Karen also teaches meditation classes and provides meditation coaching to her students and healing partners, offering assistance in Eastern and Western meditation techniques.

Nutrition, Fitness, and Dance

Karen is a nutrition and fitness expert. She spent ten years as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, bodybuilding coach, diet advisor, and bodybuilder maintaining American Council on Exercise (ACE) personal trainer and fitness instructor certifications. She regularly took classes and workshops to further her knowledge in exercise and nutrition. Over the years, she coached numerous clients in exercise and diet to help them reach their goals for weight, health, and overall fitness.

Currently, Karen's preferred forms of exercise and dance are those that integrate mind, body, and spirit. She is a Nia White Belt who also engages in yoga practice. She also participates in tribal belly dance and hoop dance, and she hikes and runs a few times a week when weather permits.

Diagnosed in her early 40s with celiac disease and an acute dairy allergy, Karen understands how to maintain a gluten-free and dairy-free household and diet. After significant research, Karen discovered the best way for her to eat was an organic, seasonal, grain-free, minimally processed diet. In her cookbooks and on her blog, she helps readers follow elimination diets to find a way of eating that works best for their own unique health picture. Karen also has substantial experience in natural health, spending several years early in her career serving as a patient education coordinator for a natural health clinic.

Food, Wine, and Cocktails

Karen is the published author of multiple cookbooks for people on special diets. A wine and cooking enthusiast, she has taken multiple cooking classes and written about wine for many years. She enjoys making home cooked meals for her family and friends, creating recipes, and pairing them with the perfect wine or spirits.

Karen has also collected wine for two decades, spending countless hours in wine shops and the nearby wineries in Washington and Oregon. She earned her CWAS (California Wine Appellation Specialist) credential from the San Francisco Wine School. A cocktail and spirits enthusiast, Karen is also a BarStarts and BarSmarts spirits and mixology graduate. She enjoys creating craft cocktails with unusual flavor profiles. Karen shares these cocktails with others when she tends bar for local non-profit fundraisers.

Babies, Kids, Teens, and Family

Karen is a mom. She has two adult sons. She also volunteered as a court appointed special advocate (CASA) and guardian ad litem for abused and neglected kids in dependency. In that capacity, Karen maintained a minimum of 12 hours per year in ongoing education into topics like family dynamics, kids' mental health, autism, drug abuse, and other topics pertinent to parents and families. She attended Eastern Washington University, where she majored in elementary reading education and music education with a minor in math education. Throughout her adulthood, Karen has also taught music lessons to kids, volunteered as a youth choir director, volunteered in the schools, coached youth sports, and provided tutoring in an array of subjects.

Business and Social Networking

Throughout her career, Karen has worked as a managing editor, technical writer, technical editor, script writer, journalist, public relations specialist, instructional designer, art director, and marketing communication specialist. Early in her career, she served as a business and office manager. She has also started two businesses, including a small publishing company and a successful freelancing business where she advised clients on marketing using Web 2.0 strategies. Karen also served as an internet security and safety expert for an online reputation management company, where she helped clients manage their online reputations and wrote articles about internet privacy and safety.


Karen has been a musician for more than 40 years. She started playing the piano in elementary school. She also began playing flute when she was 11 years old, and it was her primary instrument when she majored in music education in college. Karen also plays percussion instruments and mandolin. She teaches flute lessons and has volunteered as a music tutor in the local school district. Currently, she teaches and works as a sound healer specializing in sacred Tibetan sound healing instruments.

Other Interests and Hobbies

Karen is passionate about her interests and hobbies. She hosted a weekly radio show on MixLr with more than 300 episodes in the books, is a frequent volunteer and fund raiser for local charities, works as an energy healer, and has produced promotional videos for non-profit organizations.
