Variations and Substitutions

The Casamigos margarita is just a starting point for your margarita inventions.

  • Make yours a flavored margarita; think strawberry, mango, guava, watermelon, or even lime.
  • If sweet isn't the way to your heart, then make yours spicy with a muddled jalapeño coin or two. Start small to make sure the heat isn't too overpowering.
  • Use a full cup to cup and a half of ice, then toss everything into the blender for a frozen Casamigos margarita.
  • Simple swaps to consider: use honey or simple syrup instead of agave, use Casamigos mezcal for a smokey margarita, or añejo for a smooth and soft flavor.

Garnishes

The traditional margarita garnish is usually a salt rim and lime wedge, wheel, or slice. You can use sugar instead of salt if you want a sweeter taste for your margarita, or skip the rim altogether. Another option is tajin or chili powder, used separately or together to give the cocktail a bit of a bite. To really elevate your margarita, try a lime ribbon or dehydrated citrus wheel.

About the Casamigos Margarita

Casamigos is a reasonably new tequila brand, founded in 2007. While the brand is famous enough, one of its co-founders is even more well-known: George Clooney. The name Casamigos is a blend of the Spanish words for house and friends, casa and amigos, and the intention of the name is to symbolize "a house of friends." Before starting the company and putting the tequila into commercial production, the plan for the small-batch tequila was a labor of love, meant to be shared between friends. But once they realized they had a good product on their hands, Casamigos went into production, and the rest is history.

A Margarita Worth Shaking

The Casamigos margarita is well worth the splurge when you're making margaritas. Although tequila can be a divisive spirit, as most people are either in or they're out, there's never any pressure when making that decision.
