Mexican pizza

Mexican pizza is a delicious twist on the classic pie we all love. Not only is it packed with savory meats, tasty veggies, and a sauce with a spicy kick (of course, optional for those who don't like spice), but it also packs on all the delightful toppings you'd find in a burrito or taco. So replace your traditional tortilla with a pizza crust and take your taste buds on a ride.

How to Make Mexican Pizza

Choose a pizza crust of your choice. We like using a thin crust for its crispy bite. This recipe makes 2 to 4 servings.

Ingredients

  • ½ pound lean ground beef, cooked and drained
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon minced onion
  • ¼ teaspoon sweet or hot paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Cornmeal for sprinkling on baking pan
  • 1 (12 to 14-inch) homemade unbaked pizza crust or frozen and thawed unbaked crusts

Additional Toppings

  • 1 (16-ounce) jar chunky salsa or homemade salsa
  • 1 (14-ounce) can drained pinto beans, black beans, or refried beans
  • ½ cup chopped red bell pepper
  • 8 ounces shredded Monterey jack, pepper jack, cheddar, Mexican cheese
  • 2 sliced jalapeño peppers (optional)
  • Sour cream (optional)
  • Sliced black olives (optional)
  • Corn (optional)
  • Sliced green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 425°F and place the oven rack at the bottom-most position.
  2. In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until brown. Drain and return to the skillet. Add salt, onions, paprika, chili powder, and water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring often.
  3. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  4. Sprinkle cornmeal on a baking pan and place the pizza crust on it.
  5. Start assembling the pizza by spreading salsa evenly over the crust. Scatter the pinto beans or spread refried beans over the salsa followed by the meat and bell peppers.
  6. Bake the pizza for 10 minutes. Top with shredded cheese and bake an additional 7 to 9 minutes or until the bottom of the crust is well baked.
  7. Remove from the oven and distribute sliced jalapeños over the baked pizza. Serve with sour cream, black olives, corn, and sliced green onions.
Quick Tip

Swap out the ground beef for shredded chicken and add fajita seasoning, onions, and green and red peppers for a fajita-inspired pizza.
