Ingredients

  • 5-6 fresh large dill sprigs, approximately a large bunch
  • 750mL vodka
  • Two large clean bottles or jars
  • Cheesecloth or other fine strainer
  • Funnel

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash dill sprigs and pat dry.
  2. In a large clean bottle or jar, add dill sprigs and vodka.
  3. After capping, swirl container gently.
  4. Store in a cool, dark place for approximately 3 to 4 days, swirling the container gently each day.
  5. Sample by pouring into a glass. If you want more flavor, allow to steep longer.
  6. Carefully remove dill sprigs and discard.
  7. Pour the infused vodka into the second clean bottle, filtering with the cheesecloth.
  8. Carefully seal.

You can drink this immediately. You can also store unused dill-infused vodka in a cool, dark place. It will keep for approximately one to two years without sacrificing flavor. If flavor starts to fade or tastes off, discard the vodka.

Variations of Dill-Infused Vodka

With such limited herb and other savory vodkas on the market, it's your time to shine by adding a few different flavors.

  • Keep your vodka walking on the herbaceous side by adding three to four large sprigs of clean, fresh basil or five or six large sprigs of thyme. A sprig or two of mint, for a subtle flavor, would be a great addition as well.
  • Go the complex route by adding two peeled whole garlic cloves to your dill and vodka.
  • Prime your dill vodka for bloody Marys by adding a cup to two cups of chopped fresh green beans, cauliflower, carrots, or cucumber.
  • Peel and cube two fresh beets for a deep magenta color and strikingly tasty vodka.
  • If cilantro appeals to you, add three to four clean, fresh sprigs but be aware that this can create a very divisive taste.
