How to Make a Skinny Margarita

The slimmest skinny margaritas consist of just tequila and lime juice, but we're not in the land of depriving our taste buds of flavor. This recipe adds a bit of tangy orange and agave for a sweeter spin on the quintessential classic.

Ingredients

  • Lime wedge and salt for rim
  • 1¾ ounces silver tequila
  • 1¼ ounces freshly squeezed lime juice
  • ¾ ounce freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ¼ ounce agave nectar
  • Ice
  • Lime wheel for garnish

Instructions

  1. To prepare the rim, rub a rocks glass' rim with the lime wedge.
  2. With the salt on a saucer, dip either half or the entire rim of the glass in the salt to coat.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, add ice, tequila, lime juice, orange juice, and agave nectar.
  4. Shake to chill.
  5. Strain into the prepared glass.
  6. Garnish with a lime wheel.
Quick Tip

There are many ways to make a flavored skinny margarita without adding sugar. Use freshly squeezed watermelon for a refreshing blend or sugar-free raspberry syrup for a berry flavor.

  • Brighten up the margarita with a half-ounce or so of freshly squeezed lemon juice.
  • For a truly slim margarita, use just tequila, lime and orange juice.
  • Top off the margarita with a splash of plain or lime club soda for a bubbly effect.

Simple Garnishes to Make a Big Splash

Match your skinny margarita to your mood with these simple garnishes.

  • Use a lime slice or wedge instead of the wheel.
  • Add an orange wheel for extra citrus flavor to cut the sour tinge. Consider using a wheel, wedge, or slice.
  • A lemon wedge, wheel, or slice adds a bright and tart citrus note.
  • If you want a more subtle citrus touch, consider either a lime, lemon, or orange peel or twist.
  • Any kind of dehydrated citrus wheel will give the margarita a striking edge.
