Lisa Taylor

Lisa Taylor is a California-based writer, editor, and web content producer specializing in lifestyle, home and garden, consumer issues, design, architecture, and lifestyle topics. She is a graduate of California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and has a B.A. in Art. She has written hundreds of articles for websites and publications, including, TheSpruce, Houzz, Westways, The Los Angeles Times, and Laguna Beach Magazine. She has shared her expertise in interviews with The Wall Street Journal, Costco Connection, and KNX News Radio Los Angeles, among others.

Home Improvement and DIY

Lisa's parents were both artists, designers, and teachers, so she grew up in a creative household. She learned do-it-yourself skills at an early age—from cooking and sewing to painting and refinishing furniture and repairing pretty much everything—for practical purposes and because her family has always had a roll-up-their-sleeves sensibility. Her husband is also a do-it-yourselfer who excels in things like plumbing and pest control while she tackles yard work. It's a happy balance.

Gardening, Green Living, and Interior Design

A longtime gardener who has never minded getting her hands dirty, Lisa has a certificate in landscape design. She lives in a region affected by drought and replaced her thirsty lawn more than a decade ago with water-wise plants.

Budget-minded and resourceful, she enjoys propagating and growing plants from seed. Her family's front and back yards include recycled and re-purposed furnishings and accessories. Lisa also likes to create succulent container gardens.

Childhood years tagging along with parents who enjoyed looking at model homes and going to modern furniture stores had an influence; Lisa has a knowledge of and interest in furniture, color, and interior design. She writes on these topics frequently online and for publications like Newport Beach Magazine.

Antiques and Collectibles

In addition to receiving an extensive education in art, design, and architectural history from Cal Poly, Lisa has a certificate in Fine Art and Antiques Appraisal Studies from the University of California, Irvine. Since college, she has been a collector and dealer of mid-20th-century furnishings, collectibles, clothing, and jewelry.

Lisa has written articles for regional and national parenting publications, including LA Parent and Parenting Orange County. She once spent a week dedicated to the challenging task of potty training her son, which she chronicled in an article called 'Diary of a Mad Potty Trainer,' researching and receiving advice from top experts on the subject. It worked, and her son is now a capable young man in graduate school.

Entertainment and Movies

Lisa began her journalism career just out of college as a very young theater and film critic for a daily newspaper. She wrote about arts and entertainment and interviewed celebrities for Emmy, Soap Opera Digest, and PBS publications.

Other Interests

Lisa is the mother of a son, a daughter, and two rescue dogs. She is an avid reader, cooks without following a recipe, loves to travel, enjoys theater (especially when her daughter performs), is a genealogy geek, and is a member of a few historical and preservation societies. She believes everyone — and everything — has an interesting story to be explored.
