Vastu yantra is a tool used to counter negative energy. In Vastu Shastra architecture, the Vastu yantra is often recommended by Vastu consultants to correct various negative energy issues.

What Is Vastu Yantra?

Vastu yantra has been used for 8,000 to 10,000 years as a major tool of Vastu architecture. It is considered a sacred object, but its origin is cloaked in mystery.

Meaning of Yantra

Like many Sanskrit words, yantra has several meanings. One meaning is to hold, and another meaning is machine or instrument. When you combine these two meanings, you get a clear picture of the purpose of the Vastu yantra as a machine or instrument that holds and generates spiritual energies.

Sacred Geometry of Vastu Yantra

The configuration of the Vastu yantra is a geometric design/diagram created with sacred geometry and ancient symbols and shapes to form various three-dimensional geometric patterns. These ancient symbols are believed to represent the consciousness of the inner human being or human soul.

What Is Vastu Yantra Made of?

Most Vastu yantras are made of metal. The most popular metal is copper, although some brass yantras are common choices. Yantras are even made of silver or gold. However, there are many effective yantras made of crystals, such as reiki crystals, stones, or tree bark (Bhoj Patra tree) and various other materials.

What Is Vastu Dosh?

In the human body, there are three types of dosh or dosha that are responsible for human health or your constitution. In Vastu, when something is flawed or incorrect in your home, it is referred to as Vastu Dosh or Vastu Dosha. The Vastu yantra's sacred geometry of positive energy removes the negative energy effects of Vastu Dosha. The dosha can be generated by deficiencies within the natural environment and/or elements surrounding your home or office. Some Vastu Dosha are considered major architectural issues that are more difficult to alter. It's always advisable to check with a Vastu expert if you don't know what dosh is affecting your home.

How to Use a Vastu Yantra

A common use of a Vastu Yantra is to bury it within the foundation of your home prior to building. Another is to bury it in the center of your property. For an existing home, the most auspicious placement is the northeast, preferably a Pooja room. However, you can place a Vastu yantra in other rooms as long as it faces the northeast direction.

Sri Yantra

The Sri Yantra (Shri) is a powerful symbol of Shri Vidya Hinduism. The nine triangles in the diagram are interlocked around the central point (Bindu). The connected triangles are symbols of the human body and how it is connected to the cosmos. All yantras are created from the Sri Yantra.

Examples of Types of Vastu Yantras

You can choose a Vastu Yantra to address the cause of the negative energy in your home. There are many Vastu yantras created over the span of thousands of years. You can choose the best one to address the dosh challenge of your home or office. A few of the many available choices include:

  • Sampurna Vastu Dosh Nivaran Yantra: Corrects various Vastu Doshas, especially construction problems that don't adhere to Vastu architecture.
  • Vastu Purush Yantra or Vastu Devta Yantra: Guardian of properties bestows blessings when worshiped regularly.
  • Ganesha Yantra: The Ganesha Yantra prayer offering to Lord Ganesha (Ganesh) brings good luck, attracts prosperity and wealth.

  • Lakshmi Narayan Yantra: All-purpose yantra promotes overall family prosperity and a happy home.

Example of How to Use a Yantra for Property Blessing

A good example of how to use a yantra is a three-dimensional Shree Yantra that bestows the energies of prosperity, health, happiness, and personal spiritual growth. In fact, the Shree Yantra is often called the money yantra or the Vastu yantra king.

Burying a Shree Yantra

As a popular yantra, the Shree Yantra is often buried before construction to ensure the property is blessed and any negative energies are repelled. The yantra is usually placed in the center of a lot. The three dimensional Shree Yantra is placed facing west, so the positive energy accumulates in the east. You can distinguish the facing side of the Shree Yantra since it is designed with one side of pyramid protrusions in alignment with the top while the others are off center.

Ritual for Energizing the Shree Yantra

A yantra must be charged or programmed before it can be of any use in Vastu. This ritual is a way of programming the Yantra for a specific use or more aptly a remedy. An example of charging/energizing a Shree Yantra gives you a brief idea of the steps involved in programming yantras.

Thursday Night Cleansing and Preparation

The Shree Yantra is buried on a Friday, but the night before you must cleanse it. This requires soaking it in a salt water bath for 10 to 12 hours.

Friday Morning Ritual and Burial of Shree Yantra

It's easiest to perform the final part of the ritual at the place you plan to bury the yantra. In the morning (Friday), you will rinse the Shree Yantra with water and then set it on the ground to dry in the sun. The final steps complete the cleansing and preparation.

  1. Place the Shree Yantra on a clean plate and set it on the ground near the area where it will be buried.
  2. Make a rinse of equal parts of water and milk and 6:1 ratio of saffron with the 6 being the liquid mixture.
  3. Wash the Shree Yantra with the saffron mixture.
  4. Rinse with clear water.
  5. Spread a yellow cloth on the site where the Shree Yantra will be buried.
  6. Place a metal sheet of silver or gold on top of the yellow cloth.
  7. Place the Shree Yantra on top of the metal sheet.
  8. Coat the yantra with coral mala and Kum Kum/Sandal paste.
  9. Make an offering of yellow flowers, Gur (jaggery) a sugarcane byproduct, raw tumeric, and incense.
  10. Chant the following mantra over the Shree Yantra. Like most mantras, this one is chanted 108 times. "Om, Shreem Hreem Shreem Kamle Kamalalaye Praseed, Praseed, Shreem, Hreem Shreem Om Mahalakshmaye Namah."
  11. Cover the yantra with a red cloth before burying it.

What Direction Is Best for Vastu Yantra?

The ideal direction for placing your Vastu yantra is the sacred direction of northeast. The northeast direction is the best for wealth and luck as well as family peace and happiness.

  • Northeast direction is the best for wealth and luck as well as family peace and happiness.
  • North direction is best for prosperity, career, and wealth.
  • East direction governs growth of all kinds and promotes happy relationships.
  • Southeast direction is a challenge for maintaining that delicate balance with its ruling fire element.
  • South is the storehouse for all of the north's positive energies. For this reason, it is often touted as a negative direction since the north needs protecting. The south direction rules over legal issues.
  • Northwest direction is unstable since it's ruled by the wind element. Northwest energies blow opportunities your way, but can just as quickly blow them away.
  • West is the storehouse for East positive energies and provides stability in your life.
  • Southwest is opposite of the powerful northeast and brings magnetic energies of fame and positive love relationships such as marriage. Bad Vastu for this area means financial and personal loss.
