In the cocktail world, there is a family of drinks that give you pause because of just how boozy they can be. And the walk me down is perhaps the least-known cousin of the group, but it's still as boozy. And maybe a touch tastier.

So as the guy on the Price Is Right says, "come on down" and try one for yourself. Say so long and adios and leave the days of the Long Island Iced Tea behind you. You've got some walking to do.

Walk Me Down

Did you know that walk me down is just one name for this boozy sweet and sour drink? Although, let's be real, this blue beauty has more mixer than what you'd find in Long Islands. It's also known as the Sweet Jesus and walking with Jesus.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. In a cocktail shaker, add ice, rum, orange liqueur, blue curaçao, gin, tequila, and sweet and sour mix.
  2. Shake to chill.
  3. Strain into highball glass over fresh ice.
  4. Top off with lemon-lime soda.
  5. Stir briefly to mix.
  6. Garnish with a lemon slice.

Variations of the Walk Me Down

Like any shoe afficionado knows, small differences aren't so small. Change up the nuance of your walk me down with some of these swaps. The walk me down doesn't have a set and official recipe, like the Manhattan or old-fashioned, so when you feel like going for a walk around the block, you can make up the rules as you go.

All you need are a few swaps of ingredients to change up your walking shoes:

  • Replace the lemon-lime soda with ginger ale or club soda.
  • Add a dash of grenadine for a drink with a hint of purple.
  • Swap your silver rum for coconut rum.
  • Skip the gin and use a vodka instead. Plain, citrus, orange, or even vanilla vodka are tasty.
  • Some recipes skip the orange liqueur and use vodka instead for a boozier version.
  • Speaking of orange liqueur, you can use amaretto in its place for a nuttier drink.
Quick Tip

Walkin' After Midnight

With a boozy bite and a vivid blue hue, the walk me down drink is probably best in the early hours of the evening as you're ramping up. Think of the walk me down as the pregame drink before walking down to the bar. One thing is for certain, the walk me down can give you some unsteady feet. So always tread carefully.
